L’œuvre part d’un dessin au trait extrêmement simple : un petit oiseau posé sur une branche horizontale, avec un corps arrondi, un bec pointu, un œil réduit à une forme claire, des pattes fines et une queue qui descend sous la ligne du perchoir. La force du croquis original vient de sa spontanéité presque enfantine. La transformation festive ne cherche donc pas à effacer cette innocence, mais à l’amplifier dans une illustration de carte de Noël. L’oiseau devient le personnage central, enrichi d’accents rouges et verts qui évoquent le houx, les baies, les rubans, les boules décoratives et les motifs populaires.
